A Toyota hatchback, car of the month? Bear with us, although it may resemble a Toyota Yaris, it's not quite the same. In fact, it's very different. It's the Toyota Yaris GR.

The NEW Toyota Yaris GR: What is it?

What Toyota have done here is nothing short of extraordinary. It's a rally car! Nobody would have seen that coming! A lot of thought has gone into it as well. One of the most important things for a rally car is for it to be as light as possible. Toyota haven't messed around with this, the roof is carbon fibre and the bonnet, doors and tailgate are aluminium. That's 27.5kg lighter than the regular hatchback Yaris. The dimensions of the GR also differ from the regular version. It's 55mm longer and 60mm wider. Giving it that wide stance that a rally car needs. The chassis is a Frankenstein creation. Borrowing the front half from the Yaris, and the rear half from the Corolla and CH-R. Now onto the most important part. The engine. Needless to say, it doesn't have the same engine as the normal Toyota Yaris. It has the most powerful 3-cylinder production engine... in the world. A turbocharged 1.6 litre with 257 BHP and 266 LB/FT. The Yaris GR weighs in at 1280kg, so it's not super light, but it's by no means heavy. 0-60 times? 5.5 seconds, thanks to the intelligent 4WD system.

How long has it been since Toyota developed a new 4WD system for a vehicle? 5 years? 10 years? No, the answer to this question is 20 years! Better still, it has been developed for the GR Yaris. That shows how committed Toyota are to making this car everything it can be. It has independent rear suspension as standard, but for £3500, you can have what's known as the 'Circuit Pack'. This means stiffer suspension, stronger anti-roll bars, forged alloys, red callipers, and the party piece...Front and rear Torsen differentials. Is it worth the extra? We think so. The car comes with a 60/40 power distribution (60 front 40 rear). In the Sport mode it changes to 30/70, and, in the Track mode, it's 50/50. So, you're guaranteed to have a lot of fun in this car if you can get your hands on one of the 25,000 being made. Now onto a very important feature, the feature you have all been waiting to hear about. It has a normal handbrake, and not an electronic one. It also disengages the 4WD system when 'yanked' up. So, have Toyota thought about people doing handbrake turns, we commend them.

Due to our global technical network spanning across the world, we have had the chance to develop this Toyota system to it's full potential. The journey of the Yaris GR tuning file began in Osaka, Japan, with one of our resellers. The core tuning files were then sent over to our HQ in the UK! Our technical team then had the opportunity to fine tune it. With help from the technical team here in the UK, and, our resellers in Japan and across Europe, we have refined the perfect tune for the Yaris GR! The added power increases the excitement of driving this already bonkers hot hatch! We are thrilled to be able to release our stage 1 TDI-Tuning Box for the GR Yaris.
